Models and Technical Drawings
This is a collection of model and drawing images from years past. I have so many of them, I swap them out from time to time so check back often. A majority of them were done in SolidWorks and the others using Inventor. Because I acquire my models from a college textbook, not ALL of the dimensions are provided in a straight-forward manner and can sometimes be difficult to build.
Modeled Machined and Forged Parts:
Based upon how a part originates will determine how the model is created.
When a part begins from a forging, I generally start from a form that exceeds the final part in all 3 directions and then begin removing material.
When a part is made from lengths of raw material of a certain thickness, it’s a similar process however it is usually followed by it being welded to another part to create a weldment.
Whenever I create a model, I make it a point to minimize the number of features used in its creation. This effects the files size, its stability and simplicity if in the future it needs to be revised.
With a majority of elements on this site are SolidWorks, some of them were created using Autodesk Inventor.
Weldment assemblies as well as traditional assemblies are included in my libraries.
Piston Drawing –
This part is forged, machined and before it’s shipped snapped into two separate pieces.

Parts and Assembly Drawings:
Part drawings not only contain important views and dimensions related to them but also necessary cross sections from time to time.
Determining which views to include and when to add cross sections comes with experience.
Since all of my models contain tolerances as per the source, those dimensions and their tolerances are pulled into each drawing view. This saves time when creating the mechanical drawing.
Weldment assembly drawings contain a BOM of machined parts and a traditional assembly contain a numbered list of associated parts.
My Mission

“By the time I talked to Cat Dyson, I was a complete wreck. I’d spent good money on several photographers before her, who took the same tired photos I was trying to replace on our website and marketing materials.”
